Rachmaninov has DONE IT AGAIN

part of me would like to see some blowback in the form of autopilot crits, but for the most part this rly is as you've charted it: a band who have a sound playing their sound very well. Not their most exciting album, but they've finally trimmed the fat and (especially) the awful tryhard heavy bollocks from Chino and flat earther boi, and there it is: the de facto best Deftones since Rival Dealer!!

Yes see my comment. Deftones operate on a bell-curve: they're never pushing the envelope and everything clusters around a central mean with varying amounts of energy and commitment. As a diehard fan myself I found myself a little disappointed that this record is the 4th or 5th in a row that sounds exactly like I expected it to. But I don't know where I got off expecting anything else. Looking forward to diving back in soon.

Super great review. I just finished my first listen and my initial impression was not amazing, but this is one of those reviews that points out all the right things to listen for and appreciate on my next go-around.

I’ve found myself enjoying Cunningham and Vega’s contributions most on latter-day Deft Ones records, and Abe is in top form here again. I think I’m going to go slightly against the grain here in that at first blush I prefer Ohms to this. Chino and Stef definitely have imprinted their cheeks so firmly on their laurels that you can see the outline of every hair follicle, and sometimes I wonder if anyone even checks whether Delgado is punching his time card any more. Still, considering their age and Chino’s vocal degradation, they could’ve done a lot worse!
